Mason Summer Hours of Operation 2011
|With spring classes over and summer classes now in session, University services and restaurants are now working under summer hours. Below is a list of several points of interest and their revised hours.

Hancock to transfer to Louisville

Men's basketball key player Luke Hancock says he intends to transfer to Louisville, according to a representative from Mason Athletics.

'Green' graduation gowns to be used this year

For the first time, George Mason University will be using eco-friendly graduation gowns made entirely of recyclable materials at this year's commencement celebrations.
Known as “GreenWeaver” apparel, each gown is made out of fabric spun from molten plastic pellets from an average of 23 recycled plastic bottles, according to maker’s Oak Hall Cap & Gown’s website.
Through AE Green, an umbrella sustainability program for Auxiliary Enterprises, the eco-friendly gowns were brought to Mason this year.
According to GMU Bookstore General Manager Barb Headley, the bookstore had been searching for some time for sustainable gowns and the “GreenWeaver” line fit.
Latest Hispanic Culture Review now available
|The Hispanic Culture Review, a bilingual academic journal distributed by the Office of Student Media, is pleased to announce that the Fall 2010-Spring 2011 issue is now available for pick-up.
The magazine celebrates its twentieth anniversary with an excellent contribution of poetry and essays written in English and Spanish.
Outloud Magazine covers issues pertaining to LGBTQ community
|The Office of Student Media is premiering a new publication this Wednesday, Outloud Magazine. The magazine covers a variety of issues pertaining to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) community at George Mason University.
This is the inaugural issue of the magazine.
Subway restaurant, convenience store planned for Housing VIIIA

A Subway restaurant is scheduled to open on the ground-level of new campus housing in the spring semester of 2012, according the executive director of campus retail operations.
Mason professor offers course in civility
|“Mediocrity is no longer an option for George Mason students,” says Leslie Morton.
Morton isn’t talking about aptitude or academics; she’s talking about good manners.
“We should never sink to the lowest common denominator,” she adds.
Morton, a professor in the College of Education and Human Development, began teaching a one-credit professionalism and civility course in the fall of 2010.
Presidential Task Force asks for last comments
|The recently created Presidential Task Force sent Mason students an email requesting final comments about the Mason community's interactions with the Mason Police Department over the weekend. The comment period has been extended to Friday, May 20 and 5 p.m..

Mason professor develops dual-degree master's program
|Germana Manca, assistant professor in George Mason University's Department of Geography and GeoInformation Science, has had a busy semester. In addition to helping analyze the coast of Japan in the wake of the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami, she has put the finishing touches on a transatlantic dual-degree master's program.
