Prince William campus prepares for opening of graduate housing

The new Beacon Hall housing building at George Mason University's Prince William campus will officially open its doors to graduate students on Nov. 3.

The five-floor building will be Mason's first housing structure designed solely for its graduate student population.

"It's going to be a marvelous facility," said Ron Carmicheal, Chief Operating Officer for the Prince William campus.

Carmicheal described Beacon Hall as the first step of Mason's vision for a more innovative, biotechnology focused campus.

Mason commemorates 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, George Mason University in conjunction with the Cold War Museum, held a series of panels on Oct. 27.

“There are many explanations for why the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred,” explained Dr. Sergei Khrushchev, son of the late Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. “All of them wrong.”

Student group serves Mason through technology

Student-Run Computing and Technology, a student group at George Mason, has been putting its computer science skills to the test for the potential benefit of the whole Mason community.

Created by computer science student Luke Faraone and the manager of Advanced Network Technologies Ben Allen, SRCT has been working on a number of independent computer science projects that would, once operational, be potentially useful to students.

Fairfax native Jimmy Lange upset by Tony Jeter in ten rounds at Patriot Center

On the eve of Hurricane Sandy, a hurricane of upsets and knockouts swept through the Patriot Center as professional boxing returned to the venue. The show leading up to the main event was not a letdown, as the Beltway Brawl was. The night that would be capped off with Jimmy Lange (38-5-2 25 KO’s) taking on Tony “Mo’ Better” Jeter (15-3-1 10 KO’s) included a streak of three straight first-round knock outs.

11:38 a.m.: The Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center on the Prince William campus will open at 12:00 p.m. today.

Parking: All parking regulations and permits will be in effect beginning on Wednesday. "If you have moved your vehicle into one of the parking decks please remove your vehicle before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 31," read an email sent through Mason Alert.

Inaugural community bike summit held at Mason

Bicyclists and transportation professionals held an inaugural summit at George Mason University to discuss ongoing projects and issues relating to bicycling in Fairfax County.

The Fairfax Bike Summit, sponsored by Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling, Mason, and Fairfax County, was held in the Hub on Oct. 27.
