The phone rang a few times before Wainwright finally answered. One could not help feeling that little thrill right before the first hello rings through the line. “Can you hear me right now? I’m driving in my car,” Lucy Wainwright said as the conversation began.

Allen's last-second layup lifts Patriots over Boston University in sloppy 48-45 win

The George Mason University Patriots pulled off a 48-45 come-from-behind victory over the Boston University Terriers on Saturday at the Patriot Center.

Junior guard Bryon Allen scored three of his seven total points with 0.2 seconds remaining in the game and the score tied at 45. Allen hit a last second acrobatic layup while drawing a foul, sending him to the line for an additional point opportunity.

Mason (4-2) ended the game on a 9-0 run to pull off the win, despite finishing with the lowest point total of any game they have played this season. 

Board of Visitors creates new committee to promote research

The Board of Visitors research committee met for the first time on Nov. 8 as an integral part of the 2014 strategic plan for George Mason University.

“This committee was established because of BOV interests in promoting research, though several Mason administrators actively cooperated. The goal certainly is to highlight the importance of research and work to expand it,” Provost Peter Stearns said  in an email.

The notes provided for the upcoming BOV meeting on Dec. 5 stated that increased research is important in building on Mason’s reputation.

Mason-Boston University men's basketball preview

After finishing in third place in the Paradise Jam Tournament with a 74-58 win over Quinnipiac University last Monday, Mason returns home from the U.S. Virgin Islands this week to host Boston University on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Patriot Center.

This will be the first match-up between BU and Mason since 1985, with the all time series tied at 2-2. The Terriers (0-4) are coming off an 81-79 loss to Rutgers, but averages 69.3 points per game. Mason (3-2) is averaging 62.8 points per game on the season.

Mason debate team reaches #1 ranking

The George Mason University debate team is ranked number one in the nation this season after a successful tournament held on the weekend of Nov. 9.

As of Nov. 19, Mason has 111 total points and 19 tiebreaker points, according to the Cross Examination Debate Association's website.

OPINION: Extramarital affairs should not affect the employment status of government officials

Mason men's swimming and diving finish second overall, women take fourth in Patriot Invitational

With George Mason University hosting the Patriot Invitational at the Aquatic and Fitness Center on the Fairfax campus, the swimming and diving team intended to defend their pool and showcase a respectable performance. 

Mason students speak out about Israeli-Palestinian conflict

In light of recent operations by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip, dozens of students attended a Nov. 15 protest on the Gaza Strip held at George Mason University's North Plaza.

The recent Israeli military actions are directed at Hamas, the Islamic political party that governs the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces have conducted missile-strikes in the area, while Israeli cities have been targeted by Hamas rocket-fire.

Protestors took turns discussing their opinions about the crisis, some shedding tears as they expressed their sympathy for the people of Gaza.
