"Gravity" grabs audience with memorable execution at JC Cinema

For most of the twentieth century, filmmakers have tried their best to show the dark side of space. From Ridley Scott’s “Alien” to Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey,” space has been expressed through film as a place where anything can happen. However, no film taking place in the endless void of outer space has terrified me more than Alfonso Cuarón’s science-fiction epic, “Gravity,” now playing at the Johnson Center Cinema.

Editor's Blog: One thing is for sure, Mason's next provost will heavily promote research

Over the past couple of weeks, we've heard from four finalists for Mason's next provost who presented their visions for the future of the university. A common strand for each presentation has been a commitment to boost Mason's research credentials by altering academic programs and increasing research funding.

[VIDE0] Workout of the Week: Standing Cable Leg Curl

The workout for this week is going to debunking a workout machine at the Aquatic Fitness Center (AFC). In my time as a personal trainer and observing the gym atmosphere over the years, this machine causes the most confusion among people. It is called the Standing Cable Leg Curl. This is a great machine if anyone has a knee problem and finds that the standing leg curl kills their knees.

To perform this workout you will do one leg at a time.

Financial Development non-profit comes to Mason

On February 7, David Roth, President of the Economics Society, submitted an application for a new student organization to the Office of Student Involvement. The group would be an on-campus chapter of a nationwide non-profit that seeks to make economics knowledge accessible and easy to understand for college-age students.

OPINION: The plight of the modern-day racist

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of bigotry today is how it seems to take place primarily online or behind closed doors.

By now, most people have seen the Coca-Cola Super Bowl commercial in which “America the Beautiful” is performed in seven different languages spoken in the United States today against the backdrop of the scenery and diversity of American society. In addition to the commercial itself, most people have also heard of the vitriolic reaction of many outraged Twitter users, all of whom seemed to take personal offense to the six non-English languages featured in the commercial.

Welcome to the A-10: 2014 Mason Softball

Last week, Mason softball opened the 2014 campaign in South Carolina, taking on Ball State and USC Upstate in tournament play.

The team, coached by Joe Verbanic, faces an entirely new set of conference opponents, as the move to the Atlantic 10 starts new rivalries with the likes of George Washington, St. Joseph’s, and the University of Massachusetts.

Despite being selected to finish seventh in the conference preseason poll, Mason returns 19 of 22 from the 2013 roster.
