Mason student leaving Cairo
|Several local universities, including Mason, have students studying in Egypt who are evacuating the country amidst social and political unrest that has intensified in recent days.

Rights groups raise concern over Sodexo practices
|Two recently released reports chronicle worker accounts of unfair practices by Sodexo, and European multinational corporations, including Sodexo, that take steps to keep workers in the United States from organizing, according to rights activist who spoke out Wednesday.
The living and working conditions of Sodexo employees in the United States and other countries do not meet standards for human and workplace rights, according to TransAfrica Forum, a global justice organization focusing on Africa, and Human Rights Watch, an international human rights advocacy group.
Virginia Supreme Court upholds Mason gun policy
|The Virginia Supreme Court upheld a Fairfax Circuit Court ruling Thursday that said George Mason University could ban guns in campus buildings.
The court’s unanimous ruling said Mason’s policy does not violate the Second Amendment right to bear arms in the U.S. Constitution or a similar provision in the Virginia Constitution.
Kiplinger ranks Mason among 'best values'
|Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine recently released its list of “best value” public colleges and universities with George Mason University landing 61st for in-state students and 90th for out-of-state students.
The Kiplinger rating is based on academic quality, which includes student-faculty ratio and admission rate. Affordability is also factored in based on the total cost of attendance both with and without financial aid.

Today, students, staff and visitors celebrate the 285th birthday of George Mason, the namesake of George Mason University. But Dec. 9 boosts more notoriety than just the birth of Mr. Mason.
GWU to offer gender-neutral housing
|George Washington University announced this week that it would begin offering gender-neutral housing starting next fall.
The opt-in program will be open to all students and will include nearly all of the university’s residence halls. The change is a result of deliberations that began last year. Read the Washington Post story here.
Tyson's Corner tragedy has Mason tie
|The parents of the 2-year-old girl allegedly thrown from a fifth-story walkway by her grandmother at Tyson’s Corner Center Monday evening had connections to Mason’s campus.
According to a Washington Post story published today, the child’s mother is a Mason graduate and both the grandmother and her husband have worked part time as ushers at the Patriot Center.
