Intramurals, Rec Sports department to transition to University Life

George Mason University’s Intramural and Recreational Sports programs are currently under the school’s Athletics Department; however it will be making the move to the University Life department in the near future. Although the exact date for the transition is uncertain, it will happen by July 1.

The Intramural and Recreational Sports Assistant Director, Paul Bazzano, was unsure of where the idea of the move originally came from, but was confident stating that, “The move has been in the works for a while.”

Men's club volleyball set to compete in national tournament

The No. 26 nationally ranked George Mason men's club volleyball team is currently in Kansas City, Mo., where they will begin competition Thursday morning in club volleyball’s national championship.

Opening round play begins with each squad divided into pools of four teams, and each team within that pool will play one another on Thursday. The Patriots have been placed in a prestigious grouping with the University of Illinois, Boston College, and Southern California (USC).

Baseball takes weekend series from Georgia State with win Sunday

In a home series against the Georgia State Panthers (13-16, 5-4 CAA) over the weekend, the George Mason Patriots (18-11, 6-6 CAA) took two out of three against their conference rivals. They won the first game 6-3 on Friday, but dropped the second game 8-3 on Saturday. The Patriots looked to keep up their momentum and come out victorious Sunday.

The ‘Madness’ ends as midmajors fall short of Final Four

In what has been one of the wackiest and most unpredictable NCAA Tournaments in history, college basketball has been restored to normalcy, as four perennial powerhouses remain standing.

The madness all started with the little-known No. 15 seed Norfolk State and their shocking win over the No. 2 seed Missouri Tigers, a team coming off a strong performance in the Big 12 Championship, and that many predicted to reach the Final Four.

This was the first win by a No. 15 seed over a No. 2 seed in the tournament in 11 years.

Baseball eeks out win over George Washington

On an overcast Wednesday afternoon, the George Mason Patriots defeated the George Washington Colonials 5-4 in dramatic fashion.

In this continuation of the “Battle of the Orange Line,” the Colonials were seeking their first win at Mason’s home field since 2005, but came up just short.

Freshman starting pitcher John Williams (3-1) got the win for the Patriots, scattering six hits over seven solid innings, while allowing only one run and striking out seven and walking two.
