On a night when a successful senior class was honored, the George Mason Patriots had to overcome the emotions and thrills of the pregame ceremonies.

Folarin Campbell, Will Thomas and Jordan Carter were able to walk to center court and realize that this was their game to shine.

However, it was a fourth player from that recruiting class of 2004 that reminded everyone of how special this class truly is.

John Vaughan scored 15 points, including a huge 3-pointer to give Mason some breathing room in the second half, and Folarin Campbell scored 17 to lead the Patriots past William & Mary 60-54 before 5,801 at the Patriot Center Wed., Feb. 27.

Dancing with the Masonettes

The Masonettes play an important role at each home game by entertaining the crowd with a halftime performance. The Big Dance, also known as March Madness, is no exception. It takes a huge amount of effort from each team member to make this a success.

Led by head coach Michelle Chin, the Masonettes and their halftime shows are a popular attraction. Chin, a former Masonette, remembers her experience before Mason’s surprising Final Four run.

“I remember that we’d be excited when the Patriot Center was half-full,” Chin said. “It’s so great to see the student involvement and the seats filled at every game.”
For the Masonettes, to be part of excitement at Mason is a grand experience. Their performances are enhanced by popular and current music. Old school and ‘80s music has been a big hit with the crowd.

Where's the Love for Zorn?

By Broadside Staff Writer Tim Blank

I’ve been hearing a lot of people talking about the recent hire of Jim Zorn as the Washington Redskins’ new head coach. I find it very surprising that so many people do not think of this as a good hire by the Redskins.

So many people are asking why the Redskins didn’t hire former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams or former New York Giants Head Coach Jim Fassel. I for one don’t think those would have been good hires.

ATHENS, Ohio – In pregame warm-ups, Folarin Campbell was hearing an ear full from the Ohio University student section, the “O-Zone.”

Never one to back down from a challenge, Campbell stood in the middle of the students and fired up a 3-pointer, which calmly sank through the net and quieted the students.

That would be the only time the Patriots would silence the crowd.

Bubba Walther scored 21 points, 18 of which came in the second half, and Leon Williams added 16 and 11 rebounds as Ohio (18-9) defeated George Mason (19-9) 69-57 Saturday before 7,439 at the Convocation Center.
