With three seconds remaining in the first half of Sunday’s Atlantic 10 matchup between Mason and George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center, head coach Paul Hewitt called a timeout to set up a possible game tying play just minutes after blowing a six-point lead.

Marko Gujanicic inbounded the ball to Byron Allen who raced up the court and found a wide-open Patrick Holloway already cocked in-stance, ready to hit a long range jumper.

Instead, the ball went directly through the sophomore’s hands and out of bounds to end the first half.

Sometimes the most recognizable person at a basketball game is not a player or a coach but rather a fan in the crowd. This person isn’t just any fan; he or she is at every game. They cheer on the team whether they’re winning or losing, and they always sit in the same seat.

And the George Mason University Patriots have Trevor Scambos.

This holiday season, George Mason University will be giving back to the community by participating in the first ever Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic, where Mason’s men’s basketball team will play the University of Richmond.

The event is encouraging fans to donate canned foods and raise money through The Cause of the Classic Food Drive. George Mason University is competing against the University of Richmond to see who can donate the most in support of the Capital Area Food Bank.
