Confucious Statue Stands on Campus
By Broadside Asma Chaudhary
A recent discovery was made at Mason Pond this week where a large statue of Chinese social philosopher Confucius now stands in between the Concert Hall and the bridge leading towards the pond’s gazebo and parking Lot K. The statue, which was shipped directly from China last semester, has found a new home on the Fairfax campus.
At the end of November, sculpture students were able to view the statue before a final destination was chosen. Advanced sculpture professor Tom Ashcraft and Facilities Technician Ben Ashworth were in charge of the shipment and installation of the statue, including where to place it on campus. During that time, dozens of 2008 Olympic statues were shipped from China in order to celebrate the games in Beijing.

The statue has grown on me
Plus I think the statue will really look nice with it's new surroundings in the future.
Mason's long term plan - according to the Southwest Master Plan - is to clear all the trees by Mason pond and turn that area into something of a quad.
Now Mason should make an effort to find a statue of Socrates. Then we could have a East/West motif going on. That would be cool.
I hope that's not true

I hope that's not true. I'm rather fond of the trees... it would be a shame to have them disappear. The pond is sad enough as it is.
Here it is

Hmm.
Not as bad as I was fearing, I suppose... but I still like trees more than hair salons.
