Washington Region Named Country's Best Educated 
A recently released study by the Brookings Institute looked at 2008 census data for the 100 largest metropolitan regions. The Washington area topped the list based on the number of college and graduate degrees earned by residents. Read the full Washington Post story here.

Georgetown and Howard Receive $38M for Joint Research
The universities received a $38.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to create a research center that will help to share discoveries made in labs and clinics with communities. Read the full WJLA story here.

Former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino to Teach at GWU
Perino, who served as White House press secretary for President Bush from 2007 to 2009, will join the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management this fall as an adjunct professor. Read the full GW Hatchet story here.

Students Sue Savannah State for Admittance
Four white students accuse Savannah State University, a historically black school, for denying them admittance and football scholarships based on their race. The students are suing the university president and interim athletic director, but the university denies any wrongdoing and insists no formal offer had been made to the students. Read the full Atlanta Journal-Constitution story here.

Blackboard Partners with Barnes & Noble
The online teaching and study platform, Blackboard, is partnering with Barnes & Noble and the NookStudy platform to make e-textbooks more available to students and professors. The new integration should be available later this year. Read the full Publishers Weekly article here.
