The “10/40 Window” encompasses countries ten to forty degrees north of the equator. It includes the northern block of Africa, Saudi Arabia and its surrounding countries, and countries directly eastward, including China and India. Nearly two thirds of the world’s population resides there.
The term was first used by Christian missionaries to describe one of the world’s most impoverished areas, and one of the least exposed to Christianity.
