Patriot Circle Interrupted By Construction

Beginning Thursday, March 6, the northeast side of Patriot Circle will be closed between Lots E and G. Traffic, including CUE buses and George Mason University shuttles, will be directed onto a new spur road leading to University Drive. Those continuing east along the circle will take a left on George Mason Boulevard and a right on Patriot Circle.
This detour will be in place until fall 2009, when construction on the new parking deck in Lot F is completed.
Josh Cantor, Director of Parking and Transportation Services, said the university would put up extra signs and electronic message boards to help students and faculty get through the first week.
“Some might choose to take other ways on and off campus depending on how the traffic works out there,” Cantor said. “For the most part it’s a matter of following the signs and learning how to get around campus. Once people get used to it, it won’t be that big of a change.”
CUE Bus and Mason shuttle stops and schedules will not be affected.
Lot G itself will remain open, and Lot E will be open for “four or five” weeks, according to Cantor. The western exit to Lot E will be closed, so drivers will only be able to access the lot from its east entrance. Cantor does not expect this to affect the availability of parking.
Eventually, the university will begin construction work on Lot G and begin housing projects between Lots E and G.
