Students bring back Holi celebration
In collaboration with Student Government and Class Councils, George Mason University’s Indian Student Association is holding Holi Moli, a campus-wide celebration of the Hindu holiday Holi on March 30. Students are encouraged to celebrate by throwing colored powder on each other.
“When the executive planning board was figuring out what events we wanted to do this year, Holi was something we wanted to try to bring to campus again,” said Nupur Khullar, Vice President of the Indian Student Association. Mason has not had a Holi celebration in seven years.

Nupur Khullar explained that Holi celebrates the colors and harvest of spring and the triumph of good over evil while bringing the community together.
“The biggest thing I know we want to get out of this is making a program that all of the Mason community can enjoy,” Nupur Khullar said.
The Indian Student Association collaborated with Mason’s Student Government and class councils to make Holi Moli a campus-wide event.
“It had to be big,” Khullar said.
“The Senior Class of 2013 had expressed an interest in organizing a colored powder event on campus,” Tommy Lee, president of Mason’s 2013 class, said in an email.
Mason’s Student Government will provide free pizza and class councils will provide free Mason sunglasses for the event.
The Indian Student Association hopes to make Holi Moli a yearly celebration.
“I want it to be something that students can look forward to every year,” Khullar said.
