Mason to Hold Vigil for VT Anniversary

April 16, 2008 will mark the one year anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre, where 27 students and five professors were killed. In honor of the anniversary George Mason will conduct remembrance services.
- Orange and maroon ribbons, which are Virginia Tech’s official colors, will be distributed throughout the day and a candlelight vigil will be held in the evening.
- In the Johnson Center Atrium at 12 p.m., President Alan Merten and Student Government President Drew Shelnutt will speak and provide a moment of silence.
- Also, there will be a petition against violence that is available for students to sign.
- In addition, Mason’s Counseling and Psychological Services will provide counseling and outreach services, which will be available all day to students who may need it.

VTU will be holding services throughout the day in honor of the students and faculty that were killed on their campus.
Among these services will be a university commemoration where President Charles W. Steger will read the names of the 32 victims and Governor Tim Kaine will follow with comments.
That evening, a candlelight vigil will be held at the universities memorial site. For a full list of events, click here.
