Senator John McCain, a Vietnam War veteran and politician of over 20 years experiences, is seeking the Republican nomination for the second time. In 2000, he was a front-runner for that nomination and was major challenger to then-Texas Governor George W. Bush. His campaign has largely focused on the need to strengthen and support the military, but he has also emphasized the need to reduce wasteful governmental spending, lower taxes, and secure the border against illegal immigration.
