By Connect Mason Asst. News Director Rashad Mulla
The fourth week of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is packed with five events, starting tomorrow evening.
Following last week’s cancellation, the APAC Speaker Series continues tomorrow with a panel discussion at 5:30 p.m. in SUB I Room A. Tram Nguyen, a former undergraduate and graduate student at Mason, and Smith College professor Richard Lim are two of the confirmed speakers, according to Dr. Shaoxian Yu of the Office of Diversity Programs & Services. The event is sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Coalition.
George Mason Dining Services invites students to Ciao Hall in SUB II Thursday from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Asian Pacific American Heritage Lunch will celebrate the diversity of Asian foods and music. Those attending will have to pay for lunch, but Mason Money and meal plans are accepted.
Later that evening, join film critic Michael Jeck in the JC Cinerma for the second week in a row. This time, Professor Susumi So from Modern & Classical Languages, in collaboration with the Center for Professional Exchange, will show Late Spring, a film by Yasujiro Ozu. Like last week, a discussion with Jeck will follow. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will last until 9 p.m.
Friday, the annual Asian Pacific American Formal and the Senior Banquet unite into the “Roll Out” at Marco Polo in Vienna, Va. The senior graduating class will be honored over dinner and students’ cultural performances. Awards will follow dinner. This event is sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Coalition. It begins at 6 p.m. and is expected to last until 1 a.m.
End your week with a bang, as Mason’s B-boy club, Breakfamous, hosts “The Break Room: Date with the Rain,” Saturday at the JC Bistro. Admission is $7 without a flyer and $5 with one. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the party starts at 7 p.m. To register for the actual breakdancing, send an e-mail breakfamous@yahoo.com.
