Opinion: The Difference Between Bias and Standards

By Broadside Opinion Columnist Scott Mason

With Interfraternity Council Rush week and Pan-Hellenic Council Recruitment having just passed us by, it is important to understand the difference between being biased and setting a standard for decision-making. Fraternities and sororities each get a bad reputation for being elitist, exclusive, overwhelming, drama-filled cliques; however any person who takes the time to spend time with the various brothers and sisters here at George Mason University knows that this is, at most, a half-truth.

Opinion: Bookstore Takes Advantage of Students

Story by Broadside Opinion Editor Arthur Gailes. Photos by Photography Editor Courtney Erland.

The Mason bookstore actively rips off students every chance it gets. They mark up book prices obscenely high, buy books back at a rate much too low, and then rob us again when they sell them used. They use their position of convenience in the Johnson Center to steal money from students, especially the freshmen, every year.

Mason's Newest Talk Show: Talks With Tier

Tierney Kain is Mason's own gossip girl: full of enthusiasm and energy drinks, she's the host of a new campus talk show, "Talks With Tier."

In her first episode, Tier chats with Mason students about popular television show "The Hills," the ideal American woman, zombie attacks and Greek life stereotypes.

By Mason Votes Content Editor Christian Yingling

George Mason University’s Learning Into Future Environments Program admits six to eight new students each year in what is a highly selective process. This four-year program allows students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to gain a full college experience through classes like astronomy, employment opportunities, horticulture and exploratory mathematics time and measurement.

Soccer Spotlight: Everybody Loves Draymond

Story by Broadside Assistant Sports Editor Brian Chan. Photo by Peter Flint.

Last season, George Mason University’s two leading scorers on the men's soccer team, Chris Chaves and Fro Adu, netted three goals apiece. One of 10 freshmen on the 2008 roster, forward Draymond Washington entered the season hoping to quadruple that amount. With a third of the season complete, Washington already has been a major factor as a goal scorer and team player.

Solidifying Understanding Across the Atlantic

By Broadside Staff Writer Jared Trice

George Mason University hosted President Ernest Bai Koroma of the Republic of Sierra Leone on Saturday, Sept. 27. Mason is partnering with Sierra Leone in an effort to establish a four-college community system throughout Sierra Leone.

Is GMU really a great school?

Aside from all the hype the admissions office or student ambassadors fluff up about gmu to make it sound so great, is it really?
Im a senior in high school and I really think gmu is the school for me but there is still doubt as to whether or not its really as great as it seems...
can someone, anyone, give me their opinion on the school-negatives, positives, ANYTHING
i could really use it

thanks
