WASHINGTON - The U.S. Mint rejected designs for a commemorative D.C. quarter Wednesday afternoon because they included the phrase "Taxation Without Representation."

The GMU Film Committee presents Robert Zemeckis' film adaption of 'Beowulf' starring Ray Winston, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, and Angelina Jolie in the Johnson Center on Friday and Saturday nights, at 6 and 9 p.m.. A success with audiences and critics, especially in its limited 3D format, this motion capture retelling of the epic poem is able to be seen by students for free (with a valid GMU ID), faculty and staff for $1 (also with ID), and the general public for $3.

Mason Alumnus Teaches Health Care to Villagers

George Mason alumna Paula Grimsley returned two weeks ago to the U.S. from her latest endeavor in a now seven-year mission to improve health awareness in underdeveloped countries. Finishing a one-month trip to India, she taught village residents basic health care and hygiene.

“When you go out into these outlying areas, the houses are built with bare hands and they're made out of cow dung,” Grimsley said recently in a phone interview. “These are the same hands that cook food.”

Recent Robinson Professor Passes Away

According to this morning's Mason Gazette, Egon Verheyen, 72, died of cancer this past Monday. He was a retired Robinson Professor of Humanities at Mason.

Doc Nix Finds A Drumline Director

Consisting of high school upperclassmen and college freshman, with the exception of cymbals player Serena Maxey, a working mother of two, the GMU Drumline recently continued it's inaugural season at Mason's home basketball games.

The percussionist group began just last fall when Dr. Michael Nickens, known to most at Mason as Doc Nix, approached band instructor Chris Martin, who is also a member of the United States Air Force Ceremonial Band.
