Men’s Basketball wins big in exhibition contest

The George Mason Men’s Basketball team defeated the Bowie State Bulldogs, 113-73, in an exhibition match Wednesday night.

The Patriots displayed their hard work and team bonding that grew from the Italy trip over the summer. It was also an opportunity to give some new faces, such as freshmen Jonathan Arledge and Bryon Allen, some playing time.

Student Government listens to student concerns at monthly event

SG senators and chairs recorded student concerns, and Speaker of the Senate, Allyson Bowers spoke to C2M about the new event. Those present were also treated to free hot chocolate and Spunkbuggy cookies.

Question Box: Why is there a Confucius statue on campus?

The statue of Confucius (551-479 B.C.), a famous Chinese philosopher and thinker, has stood on Mason’s lawn since April 2008. Donated by the Confucian Academy of China, it stands as a symbol of “friendship and shared values,” according to the plaque on the statue.

Mason awarded $25,000 as winner of the "Raise the Rate" competition

George Mason University received $25,000 as the winners of the TIAA-CREF “Raise the Rate” competition.

The financial service firm, TIAA-CREF, awarded George Mason University $25,000 for submitting the most ideas for raising the personal savings rate to 10 percent.  

Fimian vs. Connolly race called

Mason Votes is calling Virginia’s 11th congressional district race for Gerry Connolly (D). The Virginia Board of Elections’ unofficial results say that with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Connolly received 111,695 votes, or 49.22 percent, while Keith Fimian (R) had 110,727 votes, or 48.79 percent.

Vote Vans running today

George Mason Student Government is sponsoring Vote Vans today to transport students to local poll sites. The vans leave Sandy Creek Parking Deck all day until 7 p.m.

UPDATE: Mason professor arrested for alleged child pornography possession

A part-time adjunct professor of Italian at George Mason University was arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography on Thursday, according to a detective with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police.

Diego Fasolini, 42, who is also a part-time Italian professor at George Washington University, was arrested on that campus by Metropolitan Police after GWU staff allegedly found suspected child pornography on an external hard drive, according to GWU Director of Media Relations Michelle Sherrard.
