Fimian concedes to Connolly

It’s now clear who will represent Virginia’s 11th congressional district in the 112th Congress after Republican Keith Fimian officially conceded the election to incumbent Democrat Gerry Connolly today.

The race between Connolly and Fimian had been too close to call since election night, even with Connolly having a slight advantage that led him to unofficially declare victory that night.

Schick ranks Mason a top cleanest-shaven campus

A recent study conducted by the makers of Schick Hydro razors and the research firm Sperling’s Best Places ranked George Mason University the 23rd cleanest-shaven school in the U.S.

Women's Basketball defeats Davis and Elkins, 85-36

The George Mason Women’s Basketball team defeated the Davis and Elkins Senators, 85-36, in an exhibition match at the Patriot Center Monday night. The Patriots showcased several rotations of players in the process, alternating three main lineups over the course of the game.

Four Loko concern expands, including Mason

The growing popularity of Four Loko among students on college campuses has universities across the country confronting the so-called “blackout in a can.”

Four Loko is an alcoholic energy drink sold in several flavors at a low price. It contains the alcohol equivalent of 5.6 regular drinks and the caffeine equivalent of three to four cans of Coke, according to a fact sheet provided by Mason’s Office of Alcohol, Drug and Health Education.

MCN to celebrate start of new season

Mason Cable Network will host a launch party to celebrate a new list of shows airing this season on the network. The event will take place in the Student Video Center (David King Hall room 1011), Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Professor no longer employed by Mason after alleged child porn possession, according to spokesman

The part-time Italian language instructor, arrested last week on charges of alleged child pornography possession, has been dismissed by George Mason University, according to University Spokesman Dan Walsch.

“He is no longer employed at the university,” Walsch said Friday afternoon.

Timeliness of MasonAlert questioned

The MasonAlert system has come under scrutiny by the Mason community after people received texts and emails regarding recent emergency situations on campus about an hour after the incidents were first reported.

When a gas leak occurred next to Lecture Hall on Oct. 6 police received the call for the gas main break at 11:09 a.m. but some people did not receive a MasonAlert until almost an hour later.
