Search process has begun to find new GMU Senior Vice President
|George Mason’s Senior Vice President Maurice Scherrens left the university earlier this year to be the president of Newberry College. This fall, the university will begin the search process to replace his position.
“The search is pretty routine…” said John Blacksten, director of media and public relations.
The position is posted on jobs.gmu.edu and a search committee has been assembled. The committee will evaluate applicants and the finalists will be brought on campus for public interviews.

|Out of a student population of over thirty thousand, Mason has about 500 NCAA varsity athletes. While, as a community, we should be very proud of these athletes’ many achievements, there are hundreds of club athletes—outnumbering varsity athletes—who also contribute to the successes of Mason in athletic endeavors. Mason Club Football has won the Seaboard Conference Championship five times, 2000, 2001 and then defended the honor three consecutive times from 2003 to 2005.
Mason Dining makes changes across campus
|Anyone who has explored George Mason University’s Fairfax campus over the past few years has noticed continual changes in the dining options. This year is no exception.
An Einstein Bros. Bagels has been added to Mason’s Fairfax campus, located in the Engineering Building. Mason Dining’s Resident District Manager Ram Nabar stated there will be another Einstein Bros. Bagels open for business, tentatively by Oct. 22, in University Hall.

|The sixty-fourth annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired on Sunday, the results of which bored as much as surprised viewers with the announcement of television’s most esteemed accolades. Overall, the comedy awards failed to bring a breath of fresh air into a stale show’s reign of the category; however, the drama awards surely caused a stir of debate among the world’s water cooler: the internet.
Cabrera discusses vision and future of university with Mason community
|As part of an ongoing conversation with the George Mason University community, President Ángel Cabrera is holding town hall sessions on all three campuses in hopes of developing a comprehensive vision for the university.
Over the past week Cabrera held a series of town hall meetings that were meant to spur discussion and allow community input into what a new Mason vision would look like.
Women's volleyball enters CAA competition with dominating win against Georgia State
|In front of a crowd of nearly 300 people on Friday night, the George Mason University women’s volleyball team began their CAA conference season and had the start they were looking for.
Facing the Georgia State Panthers at the RAC in Fairfax, the lady Patriots won in straight sets (25-23, 25-20, 28-26). With that result Mason improved to 1-0 in the conference and 3-11 overall, while Georgia State fell to 0-1 in the conference and 2-11 overall.
Neil Gaiman and Alice Walker headline Fall for the Book
|George Mason’s annual Fall for the Book will begin on September 26 and run until September 30. This will mark the fourteenth year of the festival. Initially a two day event in Fairfax and at George Mason, the event has now spread into Washington D.C. and parts of Maryland. However, sixty percent of the event still remains on the Mason Fairfax campus.
Prince William campus constructing new student apartments and laboratory
|While George Mason University’s Fairfax campus has been the focus of most of the school’s expansion and construction, development is well underway at the Prince William Campus on two new projects.
Wale performs at the Patriot Center
|Wale, Washington D.C.’s hip-hop golden boy, visited the Patriot Center Thursday, September 20. Even after signing under Miami-based Maybach music group and producer Rick Ross, Wale continues to stick close to his hometown by performing regularly around the D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia area. Wale’s performance on Thursday was the only stop in the DMV area.
