Mason men's volleyball opens EIVA play with a 3-1 win against nemesis Princeton

 

The George Mason University Patriots men's volleyball team opened up their Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association season with a 3–1 win against the Princeton Tigers at home. The Patriots came out fighting in the first half, winning the first set 25-21, and they wouldn't look back from there.

Mason students lobby state government in Richmond

On Thursday, Feb. 7, the Mason Student Government led a group of students, faculty and alumni to the state capitol in Richmond to lobby state politicians on behalf of the university.

Junior Savannah Edwards, student government’s Secretary of MASON, and Vice President Jordan Foster began planning for Mason Lobbies in September 2012.

“Months ago we started coming up with an idea that we wanted lobbying to have a bigger place at Mason,” Edwards said in a statement to students, alumni and faculty.

OPINION: How society must confront bullying by speaking up

We all have skeletons in our closet, so how can anyone be justified in bullying someone? Our diversities should make us individual and unique, not victims or targets of bullying. Bullying, however, can be stopped. What’s lacking is confidence—the confidence to stand up for what you believe is right, and enough of that confidence in yourself so that you don’t have to bully another person for a self-esteem boost.

Entering the season, Delaware was slated to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association. However, the Blue Hens opened the season against a tough stretch of non-conference opponents that included, Pittsburgh, Temple, Villanova and Duke. In their first 10 games of the season, Delaware managed to win only three games. Since then, the Blue Hens have made a respectable run to place them in the hunt at fifth in the CAA. They travel to Fairfax Saturday Feb. 9 to face the Patriots at 2 p.m. 

Mark Morris Dance Group brings back alumni for performances this weekend

The New York City-based Mark Morris Dance Group will be performing for two nights at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts. Praised by dance star Mikhail Baryshnikov as “one of the great choreographers of our time,” Mark Morris is no joke in the dance world.

Exploratory Hall renovation and addition finishing construction

Exploratory Hall, formerly Science and Tech Building II, is currently undergoing a complete renovation, including new additions to the building.

According to project manager Alex Iszard, the addition is 50,000 square feet and is located between Exploratory Hall and Planetary Hall. The addition will connect the two buildings and allow students and faculty to more easily navigate between them.

On Feb. 5, George Mason University President Ángel Cabrera released a working draft of the Mason Vision.

Mason Dining brings new food options to campus

If you think George Mason University is out of new dining ideas, think again. Mason is bringing four new additions to campus this year including Doug the Food Dude, Lemongrass, Cupcakes Actually and Manhattan Pizza.
