Land cleared as Fenwick renovations continue

Fenwick Library, one of Mason’s oldest buildings, will be nearly unrecognizable after current renovations complete. It is estimated that the project will be finalized in the winter of 2015.

Currently, the construction of Fenwick is in its initial phase, with the land having been cleared so the building of the additions can begin.

Despite the appearance that this project has resulted in the loss of green space, the team has done as much as they can to preserve the surrounding trees.

OPINION: Mason's weapons policies favor criminals, endanger law-abiding students and staff

Students at Mason are probably well aware of the gun ban on campus and in housing, and due to the lack of outrage, it seems that students don’t mind a temporary suspension of their rights in the name of safety. Students may be “ok” with not being allowed to have a gun on campus, but where does it end? What other self-defense tools are not permitted on campus?

Emergency situations can pop up anywhere, anytime. Law can only deter violence and police can only react to it.

At their November 7 meeting, the Mason Student Senate passed a resolution in support of extending Virginia marriage benefits to homosexual couples employed by the university.

As stated in the legislation, the federal government recognizes marriages of same-sex couples who are married in states where it is legal, even if the couples move to states where it is not. However, Virginia deems all homosexual relationships “null and void” and does not recognize those couples legally married in other states.

The New Black shares a new perspective on homophobia

Many student organizations within the Mason community teamed up to present a new film exposing the dangers of homophobia at the JC Cinema.

Some students are unaware of the ongoing homophobia within some black communities in Maryland that surfaced after the election of 2008 when President Barack Obama was first elected  and Proposition 8—a proposition to outlaw gay marriage—passed in California.
