Mason men's volleyball falls to IPFW 3-1, but Heim makes Sports Center Top 10

The Mason men’s volleyball team lost Saturday night to the Indiana University-Purdue University of Fort Wayne Mastodons at the Recreation and Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Virginia.

It took the Mastodons four sets to defeat the Patriots. The individual sets were 25-23, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-18. Mason looked dominating in their second set win, but were unable to get anything going after that.

The Mason men’s volleyball team lost 3-0 sets to Ball State University on Friday night at the Recreation and Athletic Center in Fairfax, Va.

Mason (4-3) had a hard time dealing with the No. 15 Cardinals’ balanced offense and defense throughout the match and committed multiple serve and attacking errors that cost them losing the individual sets 25-18, 25-18, and 25-20.

Mason men's basketball falls to Dayton, 84-67

Mason men’s basketball fell to Dayton on Wednesday night, 84-67.

Jordan Sibert led all scorers with 19, as the Flyers shot 54.9 percent from the floor on 28-51 shooting. Sherrod Wright led the Patriots with 18 points, followed by Bryon Allen with 16 and Corey Edwards with 10. Mason shot 40.0 percent on 18-45 shooting, but won the rebounding battle 30-28 in the game.

Students join in Vietnamese festivities for Lunar New Year

Many students have heard about the Chinese New Year, but the Vietnamese and other cultures also celebrate the Lunar New Year, which is the beginning of a new year based on the lunar calendar.

On Jan. 29, Mason’s Vietnamese Student Association celebrated the Lunar New Year with cultural food, traditional games and New Year’s crafts.

The Vietnamese New Year, or Tết, is an important cultural holiday to Vietnamese families which typically  involves three days of celebration.

Hylton Performing Arts Center and Lyric Opera Virginia stuns viewers with "Master Class" performance

From Jan. 30-Feb. 2, the Lyric Opera Virginia, with help of the Hylton Performing Arts Center, presented “Master Class,” by Terrance McNally.

The small cast included Lisa Vroman, who played the central figure in McNally's play: Maria Callas. Accompanying her were Joe Walsh as Manny the pianist, two sopranos played by Aundi Marie Moore and Sarah Kate Walston, a tenor played by Joshua Baumgardner and a stagehand played by Mason student Matthew Lincoln-Bugg.

Mason men’s basketball takes on Dayton at 7 p.m. tonight at the Patriot Center in the Game of the Week.

Dayton at a glance

This will be the first meeting between these two teams as members of the Atlantic 10 conference. Dayton leads the all-time series 3-1, with the Flyers having won the last three meetings.

The Patriots (7-14, 0-7 A-10) are on an eight-game losing streak heading into this matchup, after falling to nationally ranked Saint Louis on the road in overtime last Saturday, 87-81.
