SNL Stars Lead Baby Mama Hit
By Connect Mason Reporter Emily Culley
You want a baby. First you try to adopt, but that becomes a hassle. Then you seek out the oh-so-popular “test tube babies” method - for those successful single women in the working world. But what it that doesn't even help you? When Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) finds out that she cannot have a baby, she takes the next step to find herself a "Baby Mama."

Kate is the text book example of success. She is the youngest CEO in a major health food corporation run by the overly zany Barry (Steve Martin). To top it all off Kate is promoted to vice president of the company and given her own store to look over in Philadelphia. She seems to have everything - except a child, or a way to conceive a child.
In comes Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler) who “discontinued high school” after falling for her common law husband Carl (Dax Shepard).
Angie immediately decides to become Kate's baby's mama after deciding that she has “warm and sunny energies." The plot then transitions into a pseudo-romantic monologue between Kate and Angie; it's a modern day "Odd Couple."
While the movie has a predictable plot, it has many comedic moments. In some instances, Fey and Poehler, both veterans of Saturday Night Live, improvise their scenes. But what it provides that other movies staring the duo lack is Fey and Poehler in leading and dominant roles. The writer and director, Michael McCullers, is also a veteran of SNL, which may explain why he took the risk of leading with two goofy ladies filling the supporting roles with other well-known actors.
In all, the movie had many slow-hitting, solid one liners. My favorite from Kate (after singing in American Idol Karaoke): “My avatar is dressed like a whore.” Though, credit is due to Poehler with the now-famous: “It feels like I'm shitting a knife.” B-
