Record turnout for Family Weekend begins with reception in Dewberry Hall

College of Science plans building addition, anticipates new School of Systems Biology

The College of Science is preparing for infrastructural changes, including a 50,000 square foot addition, connecting Science and Technology I and II. The College also announced the creation of the School of Systems Biology, recently approved by the university Board of Visitors. The pending changes in the College of Science have been relayed via the COS twitter account.

Mason's dodgeball record hopes deflated by UCI

Attendants at the Mason Welcome Week Event: World’s Largest Game of Dodgeball on Sept. 3, are now learning their world record attempt was bounced by another university: University of California at Irvine.

According to the Guinness Book of World Record’s website, on Sept 22, less than three weeks after Mason’s attempt, UCI amassed a greater number of “dodgeballers” with 1,745 participants in the match, eclipsing Mason’s total of 1,257.

University acknowledges charges against professor for alleged misconduct in report critical of climate science

George Mason University officials acknowledged they are aware of plagiarism and misconduct charges made against a professor and known climate science critic.

In 2006, statistics professor Edward Wegman facilitated a Congressional report critical of scientists’ reconstructions of past climate conditions.

Alumni on campus this weekend

The 2nd Annual George Mason University Alumni Weekend commences with three events on Thursday, Sept. 30.

Events begin with the New Century College 15-year Anniversary Celebration, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., and the School of Management Alumni Celebration, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Both events will take place at the Mason Inn Conference Center. There will also be a tent near the George Mason statue, outside the Johnson Center, holding a faculty and staff Alumni Appreciation event from 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. this evening.

Fall for the Book Authors Back Dining Workers in Latest Ad

Ten writers in this year’s Fall for the Book festival are lending their support to the Service Employees International Union which is currently assisting Sodexo workers in their dispute over alleged low wages and poor working conditions on the Mason campus.

Student Health Services altering schedule for renovations

Due to building renovations, Student Health Services closed early, Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 3:30 p.m., instead of the normal closing time of 4:30 p.m.

Students were alerted on Monday, Sept. 13, via their Mason e-mail account, that the office would also be temporarily closed on Wednesday, Sept. 15, but will reopen no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The SHS office may open anytime between 1-4 p.m. and students are advised to check the SHS website for updates.
