Mason baseball routs Iona, 12-3 in first home game
|The George Mason baseball team opened their first home series against Iona University (1-3) on Friday afternoon at Spuhler Field in Fairfax. But the frigid, and at times, icy conditions didn’t cool down the hot bats of the Patriots (1-3), who collected 13 hits and scored a season-high 12 runs to defeat the Gaels, 12-3.
Mason junior pitcher Anthony Montefusco made the start, allowing one run on four hits through five innings while striking out seven.

Prior to boarding the team bus and heading south to Charleston, S.C. for The Citadel Memorial Challenge, George Mason University baseball coach Bill Brown, entering his 33rd season, sat in his office looking over some papers in preparation for the 2013 season.
For Brown, who has coached the Patriots to 873 wins throughout his tenure, the expectations for the upcoming season were the same as they have been in years past.

|Lacrosse is traditionally a spring sport, but with a game-time temperature of 29 degrees and winds gusting up to 20 miles per hour, the conditions at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax were anything but spring-like.
The George Mason University women’s lacrosse team opened their 2013 season on Sunday by playing host to the Scotland national team in an exhibition game.

With 9.5 seconds left on the clock and Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” roaring from the George Mason University Green Machine, Mason’s women’s basketball team (7-14, 2-8) trailed the William & Mary Tribe (5-17, 3-8) 56-55.
After a timeout by Mason coach Jeri Porter, the ball was inbounded to senior guard Rahneeka Saunders. From the corner, Saunders made a jumper that gave the Patriots a 1-point lead with just three seconds left on the clock. A missed 3-pointer at the buzzer by William & Mary guard Janine Aldridge secured the victory for the Patriots.
Mason ice hockey hosting benefit game and silent auction to raise money for charity
|The George Mason ice hockey team will be participating in the third annual Hockey Day in Virginia charity game against the National Capital Region Military Eagles, a hockey team comprised of men currently serving in all branches of the military, on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Prince William Ice Center in Dale City at 2 p.m.
Senior night spoiled as Mason falls to JMU, 2-1 on Saturday night
|In a primetime showdown between two Colonial Athletic Association rivals Saturday, the George Mason (10-5, 3-4) men’s soccer team fell to James Madison, 2-1 in front of a crowd of the 1,253 at George Mason Stadium.
Throughout the first half, the teams played two separate styles. The Patriots relied on set pieces, forcing four corner kicks, taking five shots. While the Dukes (6-5-3, 4-1-2) played an up-tempo game, creating chances with short one-touch passes between midfielders. However, neither team could break through on the score sheet.
Butcher, Patriots blank Tribe in weekend win
|Perhaps it was the frigid October night or the fatigue from only a couple days rest that led to the George Mason men’s soccer team's slow start Saturday night against their Colonial Athletic Association rivals, William & Mary (2-9-3, 0-4-2). But unlike the weather, the Patriots (9-4, 2-3) settled in and heated up as they went on to a 2-0 win.
A bundled-up crowd of just over 1,000 at George Mason Stadium, watched a first half where both teams traded chances, but neither team could finish.
