Mason baseball travels to Williamsburg for weekend series with William & Mary
|When the George Mason baseball team steps onto the field of Plumeri Park in Williamsburg on Friday, it’ll look to accomplish something they haven’t done since March 17 — win a three-game series against a Colonial Athletic Association rival.
Their last CAA series victory came against Northeastern in Fairfax. This time, the opponent is the William & Mary Tribe. With a record of 26-16, 9-6 in the CAA, the Tribe sits at third in the conference. Mason, meanwhile, is last in the conference with an overall record of 14-29, 5-16 in the CAA.
No. 25 UNCW closes out Mason baseball with three-game sweep
|It was little league day at Spuhler Field in Fairfax. The crowd was made up mostly of parents and children clad in various colors of little league teams from all over the Northern Va. region. The matchup on the field was between the Mason Patriots and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks.
For the second straight day, it was a matchup of men against boys as UNCW easily beat Mason, 10-2.
UNCW sprung out of the gate quickly, scoring three runs in the first and four more in the second after Mason scored once in the bottom of the first.
No. 25 UNCW outhits Mason baseball in 8-3 victory
|The Seahawks of UNC Wilmington showed on Saturday why they’re ranked No. 25 in the country. They out hit and out pitched the George Mason University Patriots in front of a raucous Spuhler Field crowd of 346, which at times seemed mostly in favor of the visitors.
Over the last 20 games Mason’s record is 2-18. During that span they have frequently beat themselves, either in the form of numerous or costly errors and missed opportunities.
Faith, academics drive Hendricks in long road to recovery
|A few months ago he was sporting a Rollie Fingers-esque mustache, one that earned him the Movember Foundation’s “Man of Movember” title for Washington D.C.
Today, he’s clean shaven and wearing glasses along with a pea coat and scarf over a button-down checkered shirt. Brett Hendricks, a first-year graduate student at George Mason University, no longer resembles the famous Oakland Athletics closer of the mid-1970’s. Today he looks like the studious type—like himself.
Ninth-straight loss for Mason baseball comes in 16-1 drubbing by Maryland
|At the end of the seventh inning, a few crows perched themselves atop the scoreboard at Spuhler Field. It was as if they were waiting to pick away at the beaten and battered George Mason Patriots after the Maryland Terrapins put on a small-ball clinic en route to a 16-1 win.
The Terps sacrificed runners over and drove them in with singles or sacrifice flies. Through the first seven innings of Wednesday’s matinee, Maryland (18-15, 4-11) had four two-run innings and led Mason (12-21, 4-11), 8-0.
Mason baseball back on track in 11-2 blowout win over CAA rival James Madison
|Just last week, the George Mason Patriots’ spirits were probably at the lowest they had been all season. The team was in the midst of a five-game losing streak, including three conference games in that span — two against Georgia State and one against Northeastern University, bookending back-to-back losses to Richmond University.
Huskies' late-inning runs down the Patriots, 12-5; losing skid at five straight games
|Hands in his jacket pockets and an agitated look on his face, George Mason baseball coach Bill Brown was visibly frustrated by his team’s effort following a 12-5 home loss to Northeastern University Friday afternoon. The loss was the team’s fifth straight and in each of those games the Patriots have stranded at least 10 base runners.
Mason stretches losing streak to four games with 7-5 home loss to Richmond
|When George Mason freshman shortstop Brandon Gum grounded out in the ninth inning to end Wednesday’s game against Richmond, he stranded redshirt junior Josh Leemhuis, the tying run, on first base. It was a common occurrence for the Patriots in a 7-5 loss at home to the University of Richmond.
The loss extended Mason’s losing streak to four straight games and it was the second loss in as many days to the Spiders (14-3), the other coming on a 11-2 throttling at Pitt Field in Richmond on Tuesday night.

The George Mason University baseball team travels to Atlanta this weekend for their first taste of Colonial Athletic Association action against Georgia State University. The Patriots enter the weekend series with a record of 6-5, while the Panthers, rank second in the CAA with a record of 8-5.
Mason is powered by junior catcher Tucker Tobin, who leads the CAA with four home runs, and was named CAA player of the week on Feb. 26. Georgia St. meanwhile is led offensively by freshman outfielder Josh Merrigan, who leads the CAA in hits and ranks second in the conference in RBIs — tied with Tobin at 13.
Leemhuis' walk-off sacrifice fly lifts Patriots over Fairfield, 7-6
|When Fairfield University’s Alex Witkus crossed home plate in the ninth inning, those in attendance at Spuhler Field in Fairfax let out a collective groan on Friday.
The run scored by Witkus gave the Stags a 6-5 lead — their first of the game — after the George Mason Patriots had scored all five of their runs in the first inning. But the Patriots would show resilience as they rallied back in the home half to steal a 7-6 win from the Stags.
