|The Mason baseball team defeated the Hartford Hawks 1-0 in game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. Anthony Montefusco (2-0, 0.00) got the start for the Patriots, and LHP Sean Newcomb (0-1, 0.00) got the start for the Hawks.
Mason men's soccer pulls 1-1 draw against LaSalle
|Mason men’s soccer team pulled a 1-1 draw against LaSalle on Sunday after playing through regulation and two overtime periods at George Mason Stadium.
Mason had a scoring chance in the 9th minute when Timi Mulgrew crossed the ball into the box. Zach Herstek deflected, and Jannik Eckenrode buried the shot in the corner. However, the goal was disallowed because Herstek was offside.
Mason men’s soccer game ends in scoreless deadlock against VCU
|Mason men’s soccer tied Virginia Commonwealth University in a 0-0 draw on Sunday at George Mason Stadium. The VCU Rams looked to build on their four-game winning streak, but despite their efforts Mason held them scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods.
Mason came out strong in the first half, playing excellent defense and had several quality scoring chances. The match ebbed back and forth, as neither team could get a clear advantage. The Rams and Patriots were both aggressive in the beginning, probing both defenses, trying to find a weakness.
Mason women's soccer falls to Richmond 2-1
|Mason women’s soccer fell to Richmond 2-1 in double-overtime on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
Both teams managed just eight shots total in the first half, and played conservatively until the 40th minute. Richmond forward Shannon Colligan had a breakaway and took advantage of a mistake by the Patriot defense, which led to a one-on-one opportunity with Mason goalkeeper Lyndse Hokanson who made an incredible save.
Mason men's soccer defeats UMass 2-1
|The Mason men’s soccer team defeated Massachusetts 2-1 on Sunday with a dramatic goal in the 81st minute.
UMass got the early lead when they scored in the 18th minute on a header by defender Matt Keys off a Josh Schwartz corner kick. Mason had opportunities at the end of the first half but was unable to capitalize. The Patriots had 5 corner kicks in the first half, and Umass scored on the only shot they had on goal.
