Softball Shuts Down Eagles in Doubleheader Sweep

With pitching ace Becky Anderson getting some rest for the upcoming weekend series with James Madison, the George Mason softball team was looking for some pitchers to step up and get some wins against North Carolina Central.

Two shutouts later, the women were feeling much better about the staff behind Anderson.

It is late April. Campuses across the country are lively with students who'd rather hit the lawns to sun bathe or toss the football instead of study.

While wannabe jocks and the occasional fan toss the pigskin around for fun, college teams hit the field to participate in a few weeks of spring practice. The NCAA allows returning players the chance to reunite and get a head start on the upcoming season.

Why would this be big at George Mason? What is the draw or point for a school that does not field a varsity football team?

Despite a late-inning threat, George Mason's baseball team fell to the James Madison Dukes 5-3 on Saturday at Spuhler Field. The loss dropped Mason (19-20, 12-7 CAA) further behind Madison (26-10, 16-4 CAA) in their attempt to climb to second place in the conference.

Porter Looks to Rebuild Women's Basketball Program

Speaking to supporters at Brion's Grille Thursday night, new George Mason women's basketball coach Jeri Porter made it perfectly clear that she is not afraid to begin rebuilding, and learned a lot about what it takes from her past six seasons at Radford.

After turning around the Radford women's program, the Capital Heights, Md. native returns to her roots to begin the rebuilding process at Mason, where the women's basketball team has not enjoyed a winning campaign for four seasons.

A strong showing on defense mixed with a late first-half scoring run led the 12th-ranked George Mason women’s lacrosse team to their sixth home win in a row.

Mason (11-3, 4-1 CAA) defeated the Drexel Dragons (10-6, 2-4 CAA) 13-6 Friday night at George Mason Stadium.

Club Bowling a Strike in Third Season

A nine-hour drive to Indianapolis could not prepare a bowling team for what they were about to encounter.

For Shawn Logan, who has bowled for 12 years and is the current captain and president of the George Mason club bowling team, it was a sense of accomplishment that the team had finally made it.

Porter Replaces Taneyhill as Women's BBall Coach

As announced Wednesday by the George Mason athletic department, Jeri Porter has been named the new women's basketball coach, replacing Debbie Taneyhill who resigned last month.

Bowler Cheung Named Academic All-American

Eric Cheung bowled a strike. Not just one on the lane, but also in the classroom.

The sophomore Marketing major was named to the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association 2007-08 Academic All-American team. For Cheung, it was a nice surprise.

“It was kind of surprising because I didn’t know there was such a category,” said the McLean, Va. resident. “To be recognized for being academic and an athlete at the same time feels nice.”
