"Hair|Heir" art thesis focuses on the power of memory
|Running from Monday, March 25 until March 29, George Mason University’s School of Art will be showcasing Stephanie Booth’s thesis exhibition, “Hair|Heir” in the Fine Arts Building’s first floor gallery. The exhibit focuses on Booth’s unique blend of mixed media within mediums of photography, video, and fiber art.
Currently a graduate lecturer at Mason and an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College, Booth has spent over two years on her project.
Mason withstands Houston's OT comeback to advance to the CBI Tournament semifinals
|Amid the announcement of Mason's move to the Atlantic 10, the men's basketball team had business of their own to take care of in the quarterfinals of the CBI Tournament against the University of Houston.
In a thrilling overtime finish at the Patriot Center Monday night, the Patriots advanced to the semifinals, defeating the Cougars, 88-84. Junior guard Sherrod Wright led all scorers with 29 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 4-of-6 from three-point range.
Overview of March 20 Board of Visitors meeting
|Dining contract delayed
At a March 20 meeting, the Board of Visitors delayed a final decision to its ongoing dining contract negotiations. The university had been deciding whether or not to renew Sodexo’s contract or to choose a new company, Chartwells.
As of December 2012, Sodexo has been working with Mason for 25 years.
Mason announces move to the Atlantic 10 for all sports effective July 1
|George Mason University announced in a press conference today their decision to move to the Atlantic 10 conference for all sports, effective on July 1.
According to a Mason Athletics press release, the university’s decision to move to the A-10 will “help further showcase the exemplary contributions of Mason’s faculty and students and all that the university has to offer."
Mason drops series rubber match against JMU, 5-2
|You’d expect the rubber match of a series between two rivals to be an exciting, edge-of-your-seat slugfest, right? Sunday’s series finale between George Mason University and James Madison University, not so much.
The Patriots’ (11-12, 4-5 CAA) struggles on offense continued for the second straight game, dropping the series to JMU in a 5-2 bore-fest.
The Dukes (13-9, 6-2 CAA) continued to produce on offense, thanks for a multi-hit game from four different players.
Students bring back Holi celebration
|In collaboration with Student Government and Class Councils, George Mason University’s Indian Student Association is holding Holi Moli, a campus-wide celebration of the Hindu holiday Holi on March 30. Students are encouraged to celebrate by throwing colored powder on each other.
“When the executive planning board was figuring out what events we wanted to do this year, Holi was something we wanted to try to bring to campus again,” said Nupur Khullar, Vice President of the Indian Student Association. Mason has not had a Holi celebration in seven years.
James Madison's five-run ninth inning downs the Patriots, 11-4
|The old adage says “when it rains, it pours,” and that seemed to be the theme for the game between George Mason University and James Madison University on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots (11-11, 4-4 CAA) fell to the Dukes of JMU, 11-4 in what was a bipolar-type game for both sides.
JMU (12-9, 5-2 CAA) earned their 11 runs thanks to a six-run third inning and a devastating five-run ninth inning. The Patriots scored on a Tommy Vitaletti three-run homerun in the third inning, followed by a Ray Toto solo shot in the fourth.

Mason baseball back on track in 11-2 blowout win over CAA rival James Madison
|Just last week, the George Mason Patriots’ spirits were probably at the lowest they had been all season. The team was in the midst of a five-game losing streak, including three conference games in that span — two against Georgia State and one against Northeastern University, bookending back-to-back losses to Richmond University.
