Students venture through Italy in unique art exhibit
|Last summer, twelve School of Art students traveled to Italy to unleash their creativity in a course called “Seeing and Responding in Italy.” Their resulting works are now featured in an exhibit titled after the class and will be available for all Mason students, free of charge, between Feb. 10 and March 7.
Situated in Mason Hall’s Atrium gallery, the exhibit displays the students’ work in several mediums, mainly painting and photography.
Dr. Jane Hooper contextualizes "Africans in India" exhibit with historical lecture
|Dr. Jane Hooper, a historian and professor at Mason, spoke at a lecture and reception held in Mason Hall’s Meese Conference Room on Jan. 30.
Although the general public was invited, History and Art History students and professors made up a majority of the audience.
The lecture was organized by the Office of Global & International Strategies in order to add an extra layer of depth to the neighboring art exhibit, “Africans in India: From Slaves to Generals and Rulers.”
Students and faculty take time to remember historical heroes
|Mason’s class council held a celebration of the March on Washington’s 50th anniversary with a picture gallery at The Ridge on Jan. 24.
The photo exhibit consisted of different black and white photos from Martin Luther King’s era and that of President Barrack Obama.
The historical pictures were some that students have seen throughout their elementary years. Captions and dates were shown underneath the pictures so visitors could read about the story behind each photo and see when the pictures were taken.
Exhibit showcases student photography
|Running from now until the end of March, George Mason University’s School of Art will be showcasing works by student photographers in the Johnson Center, Gallery 123. The exhibit is a final portfolio of the AVT 353 course under the instruction of Professor Peggy Feerick. The gallery highlights eight students’ unique pieces covering a variety of different themes and subject matters.
"In Unison" showcases work of 20 D.C.-based artists
|On Wednesday Feb. 6, George Mason University’s Mason Hall Atrium Gallery buzzed with excitement as artists, art students and art aficionados visited the opening reception for the final exhibition of the art series "In Unison" that featured work by 20 Washington, D.C.-based artists.
Art exhibit draws on themes of time
|This past Thursday, nine different artists filled the Fine Art Gallery in the Art and Design Building with their drawings. In an exhibit entitled Draw(n) Out, these artists showcased their work focused on the theme of time. Draw(n) Out’s purpose was to push the boundaries of the ideas people have about drawing.
