Best & Worst Routes to Campus

By Connect2Mason Reporter Lauren Jost

Coming to campus in the middle of the day usually ends up in a parking nightmare. The lack of convenient parking spaces for the overwhelming amount of Mason students amounts to a slew of problems including getting into campus, finding a spot that’s not miles away and finally scrambling to campus.

Connect2Mason showed you in the Amazing Race: GMU Style there are some options to parking near campus without the headache of Patriot Circle gridlock; but here’s a timetable with an awesome map to make it a little easier finding a parking spot without pulling your hair out.

Best Routes into Campus:

* Noon to 3 p.m.: Roberts Road to entrance on Shenandoah River Lane
* Before Noon and After 3: 123 to University Drive or just plain University Drive

Worst Routes into Campus:

* Braddock Road, entrances at Roanoke River Road and Nottoway River Lane fill up with visitors and traffic going to Lot A.
* By any means necessary avoid a route that involves Braddock Road! Typically this is where most of the Fairfax County traffic builds up as it dumps out to the Fairfax County Parkway and I-95.

Best Lots to Park In:

* Any Time of Day: Lot J, Field House, or West Campus.
* Middle of the day: Lot K or PV
* Best bet in a crunch, but a little pricey: Sandy Creek Parking Deck or Mason Pond Parking Deck.

Worst Lots to Park In:

* Any time of day: an informal poll resulted in the unanimous decision that Lot A is too crowded, too busy, and can be too far from the center of campus.
