Brother Micah Spreads Message, Upsets Students
By C2M Podcast Director Matt Loffman
Brother Micah Armstrong returned to Mason Wednesday to preach his beliefs on God, sin and religion to students.
Students gathered in the JC North Plaza to hear Brother Micah’s message. Most students responded negatively to his preaching. Many publicly expressed their disagreement and challenged his beliefs.
Brother Micah said that he believes college students are sinners because they masturbate, have sex out of wedlock, listen to rock music, drink alcohol and support homosexuality. The only way for students to save their souls is to truly repent, he said.
Mason Police were on hand to ensure that the demonstrations against Brother Micah did not turn violent. In addition to keeping the peace, police were there to protect the preacher and students from assault.
According to one police officer, Brother Micah has the right to demonstrate on campus because Mason is a public institution.
The same police officer said that Mason police officers keep riot gear in their cars in the event a situation ever erupts, but she did not expect the demonstration to cause problems. If people did not pay attention to the preacher or respond negatively, Brother Micah would not return to campus every year, she said.
