Greek Show Starts Spring Semester Off on the Right Foot
The Multicultural Greek Council, in association with Winter Welcome Week, Program Board and Every Freakin’ Friday brought a full house into the SUB II Ballroom this past Friday, Jan. 23, for the fourth annual MGC Exhibition Show of Strolling, Saluting and Stepping.
Eight fraternities and sororities presented routines to a crowd of over 400 students.
Assistant Director of Training and Programs for the Student Centers Mecca Marsh acted as emcee for the night in between acts.
Chris Jefferson, assistant director of Student Activities for Fraternity & Sorority Life, was pleased with the event.
“The event helped bring exposure to the Multicultural Greek Council and the opportunities it provides,” said Jefferson.
Along with the dance routines, the fraternities and sororities occupied tables along the ballroom displaying their events, members and accomplishments.
“This was one of the best MGC events in a long time,” said Vice President of Kappa Phi Gamma Amreen Panjwani. Panjwani’s sorority spent about a week putting together their routine, including one long Thursday evening putting the finishing touches on it.
The Kappa Phi Lambda sorority spent two weeks preparing for the event. Beverly Tan, President of Kappa Phi Lambda and a communication major, explained that “there were no set guidelines for the routine. We had ten minutes to perform and we could include anything we wanted like videos, music, and dance, as long as it was appropriate.”
According to President of Kappa Phi Gamma Anita Sagar, the night was an overall success. “There were at least twice as many people here as ever before,” said Sagar. “It was exciting to see.”
The MGC Step Show is an annual event at the beginning of the spring semester.
