Mason partakes in the the holiday spirit with #GivingTuesday
|
George Mason University is participating in #GivingTuesday, the very first national campaign aimed at giving back to the community during the holiday shopping season.
Around the country, organizations are participating in #GivingTuesday to give back to nonprofit organizations. Mason has chosen to aim its efforts to benefit Early Identification Program, Mason’s college preparatory program.
According to the EIP website, Mason's Early Identification Program “provides access to educational resources for middle and high school students who will be the first in their families to attend a college or university.”
“#GivingTuesday strives to create the same recognition as Black Friday and Cyber Monday as holiday 'buying' days to establish a holiday 'giving' day,” wrote Nell Nutaitis, director of Annual Giving within Mason’s Development Office, in an email.
Students are encouraged to participate by signing up to become mentors for the middle school and high school students in EIP as well as donating money or gifts to the cause.
“It is our goal to raise $5,000 to benefit EIP scholarships as well as to recruit volunteers to mentor students in the Early Identification Program,” Nutaitis said.
