Morissette Fulfills with New “Flavors”
By Connect2Mason Reporter Kyle Ridley
Alanis Morissette's dynamic fifth album “Flavors of Entanglement,” due June 10, is a no holds barred marathon chronicling the devastating demise of a relationship and the hopeful resurrection post rock bottom.
Opening track "Citizen of the Planet" poetically details Morissette's life journey through world travels and rocks a chorus so commanding, you can't help but get amped for the tracks to come.
First single “Underneath” is a sparkling number linking global concerns to issues at home; the track reflects Mahatma Gandhi's macro stemming from the micro concept.
Morissette tackles a brand new sound on techno fused rocker “Straitjacket” and bubbly dancer “Giggling Again for No Reason.” The electronic duo could easily stake claim as dance club staples.
A one-two-three punch of wrenching breakup ballads is scattered throughout the mix. The heartbreaking trio of "Not as We," "Torch" and "Tapes" perhaps contain Morissette's most vulnerable lyrics and the raw vocals showcased delicately capture the open-wounded sentiment.
Smack dab in the middle of the paramount CD, amidst an array of dark tales, is the luminous “In Praise of the Vulnerable Man.” This uplifting song of admiration offers a refreshing dose of simple sounds and sweet sensation.
Album closer "Incomplete" is a golden tune with acoustic fairy tale-like verses and a spirited chorus that describes the exhaustive cycle of forever fixating on attaining the ideal.
Though Morissette is no stranger to laying it all on the table, this supreme new disc takes the cake in terms of personal revelations and unrestrained release.
