A New Comic Book Column
By Connect2Mason Columnist Greg Pelkofski
I have been a comic book fan for as long as I can remember. Back in middle school I started reading the words of comics (as opposed to just looking at the pictures like I did in elementary school) and found them to be amazing stories of heroes and villains. I consider myself an expert on Marvel comic books and I know a bit about DC comics as well. I currently own 2,476 comic books (yes, I keep track of how many comics I own) and 161 graphic novels. I like to think of myself as a comic book connoisseur. That's why I decided to put my knowledge to good use and to write this column.
I thought that it would be a good idea to write a comic book column, seeing how comic books have been coming more and more into mainstream pop culture in the recent years. Movies, video games and TV shows have paved the way for comics to come out of basements and into our everyday lives. I think that comics reflect real life, to a certain degree. These are stories of people just like you and me, but in fantastic settings with amazing powers.
My goal is to make this column as witty, sarcastic, funny, intellectual, and entertaining as I can, and as politically incorrect as the university will let me. I have a wide variety of topics to choose from every week, just from reading comics weekly and scoping out comic book news websites. Possible topics include the upcoming Spider-Man Broadway musical, Marvel’s 70th anniversary, comic book conventions, comic book stores, movies, TV shows, video games, yada yada yada.
I have plenty of ideas for this column and I hope you enjoy reading them as much I enjoy writing them. If you ever have a topic or suggestion for this column, please email me at gpelkofs@gmu.edu. I look forward to bringing comics in Mason’s mainstream society and life. Go Patriots!
