By Connect2Mason Content Director Amanda Svec
"Yesterday the Board of Visitors' executive council approved a proposal to cease operation of the Ras-Al-Khaimah campus on or after May 25, 2009", said University Press Secretary Dan Walsch in an e-mail on Friday morning.
Mason Provost Peter Stearns is holding a forum regarding the situation today, Feb. 27 at noon in the Edwin Meese III Conference Room in Mason Hall on the Fairfax Campus. Two-way audio feeds will be available at the Arlington Campus in Hazel Hall, Room 215 and the Prince William Campus in Occoquan Building, Room 221.
Located in the United Arab Emirates one hour north of Dubai, George Mason University's RAK campus was developed in 2005. According to the RAK website, Mason "decided that the Arab region was an area where education was needed and that the UAE, as a country, desired to be the regional hub for education."
News of the closure was first reported by The National. Thanks to @ticopi for bringing it to our attention.
