- Last Tuesday, George Mason University Professor Dr. Harold Geller and freshman Chris Matthews were announced among the receivers of two Telly Awards given to Astrocast.TV, a Web-based video news program covering astronomy and space events. Geller is the science advisor and editor for the site’s vodcast, where he also provides his expertise on science, space organizations and academia.
Geller was excited to hear the announcement and said it was proof the Astrocast was worth the money it was given. “I was exuberant to hear of our winning a Telly award,” said Geller. “After all, it is really the taxpayers dollars that provide the bulk of research funds, so the public should understand what it is buying, and this medium provides a platform for such information dissemination.”
The Telly Awards is a well-respected international competition which receives
14,000 applicants from all over the country each year. The competition recognizes
broadcasting, video, film, Internet productions and other media projects that serve as excellent mediums for information.
“Receiving this recognition is extremely gratifying,” said Richard Mathews, Executive Producer and fonder of Astrocast.TV. ”Our goal was to integrate visually rich media with a medium widely accessible to the public providing outreach with news and information about astronomy and space.”
