Patriots baseball stars Scott Krieger, Chris Henderson, Mike Modica, Justin Bour, Jordan Flasher and Shawn Griffith have all been drafted in the 2009 Major League Baseball Firs-Year Amateur Draft.
Krieger was selected in the 19th round by the Milwaukee Brewers, Henderson the 21st round by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Flasher 22nd round by the Boston Red Sox, Modica the 24th round by the Houston Astros, Bour the 25th round by the Chicago Cubs, and Griffith the 37th round by the Toronto Blue Jays.
According to George Mason University Intercollegiate Athletics, this year sets a record for the most amount of Mason players drafted in a single season. Three players were drafted in both 1997 and 2007.
"We are extremely proud having six of our players taken in the Major League Draft this past week. Each of them has put in numerous hours of hard work to put themselves in a position to be a professional player and it is gratifying to see that dedication pay off," said head Baseball Coach Bill Brown. "It is very exciting to see them realize their dream of playing professional baseball. They each will be fantastic representatives of Mason."
