Two-time Tony award winner Sutton Foster comes to the Center for the Arts
Two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster will be coming to George Mason University as part of the annual ARTS by George! fundraising event. Acclaimed by the New York Times as “the voice of a trumpet and a big, gleaming presence that floods the house,” Foster should draw in the crowd that the School of Music is looking for to get scholarships for its students.
With spunk and quirkiness, Foster is best known for her role as Millie in “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” for which she won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress. Foster won her second Tony Award for her role as Reno Sweeny in “Anything Goes,” where her performance was hailed by the New York Times as embodying the, “essence of escapist entertainment in the 1930s.” She has also released two critically acclaimed albums and has performed at Lincoln Center and with the New York Philharmonic.
Starring in other productions such as “Little Women,” “Young Frankenstein,” and “Shrek: The Musical,” Foster has delved into a wide array of musical theater. Critics alike have praised Foster for her voice, along with her acting and her exceptional dancing.
Tony-winner and Broadway veteran Barbra Cook, has praised Foster telling the New York Times that Foster is, “simply one of the top people we have in musical theater.” Foster will be performing at the Center for the Arts in a program on Saturday September 29. Limited free student tickets are available, with your Mason ID.
