Artist 'V' performs new dining song for senior administrators, students
Weren't at Duckie Day before spring break and missed the public debut of Mason Dining's new theme song? (Yeah, you read that right. They have a song).
Hiphop artist and student V performed the tune – appropriately titled "I'm Eatin'" – to a mixed crowd of administrators, faculty and students at a going-away event Monday afternoon for Denise Ammaccapane, outgoing resident district manager for Sodexo operations at George Mason University.
The song, which describes the life of a student at Mason and the options they have for food ("La Pat! And Ike's! The Rat! Bistro!"), was an idea that V said organically came out of a meeting with Ammaccapane last fall.
"She was at [freshmen] move-in giving out cookies to the world," said V, who is also an RA. Later in the semester, the two talked and the idea for the song came about. It was first performed at Mason Dining's Duckie Day (the ending includes "Teach me how to duckie").
The song is currently wrapping up post-production. When complete, plans include playing on the sound system in Southside, as well as Mason Dining events.
"We're still looking for a good duckie dance," said V.
V, growing increasely popular on campus through performances like the Mason Majesty competition for homecoming, has also helped start a new student group to "build a popular culture of intelligence" on campus. The group, called Simply Yes, has plans to meet in the Johnson Center on Tuesday during the lunch hour for its first event: a little "guerilla cypher."
V says he expects around 70 people for freestyling and beatboxing.
