Aquatic and Fitness Center will be closed this summer
The Aquatic and Fitness Center located on the George Mason campus will be closed from May 23 to August 16.
The building will be closed in order to install new air handling machines in the roof, which are responsible for maintaining the proper air temperature, air quality and humidity.
The Mason Recreation department deemed it a necessary measure in order to protect the saftey of the students.
The $11.2 million facility was constructed in 1998, but has received several upgrades since then. The two-story fitness studio was added to the AFC in 2007, which was the last time the building was modified.
The AFC is the home of the men's and women's swimming and dive teams, as well as the club swim and dive teams. It is also open to all Mason students for recreational purposes.
Students will be encouraged to use the RAC during the renovation process.
