Economics columnist to give open lecture to government class

Tim Noah, former columnist for Slate and current TRB columnist for New Republic, will give a lecture on income inequality to Mason students and faculty this Wed. Oct 26, at 1:30 p.m. in Robinson B, room 228.  Noah wrote a popular series on this topic last year for Slate, which he is currently in the process of expanding into a book.  The talk will occur during an open meeting of GOVT 319: Money, Markets, and Economic Policy, taught by Robinson Professor Steven Pearlstein.  All students and faculty are welcome

Annual Breastival returns to educate students about breast cancer

Mason’s annual Breastival is set to return this Thursday, Oct. 27 in the Johnson Center North Plaza from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Breastival provides education and information on breast cancer as well as raise awareness.  There will be games, food, and prizes, and the event is free and open to the public.  Sponsored by the Office of Alcohol, Drug, and Health Education.

UFO lecture sure to raise some eyebrows

UFO Researcher Robert Hastings will visit Mason to present UFOs: The Secret Story, a 90-minute lecture regarding the US government’s response to UFOs.  The lecture is based on declassified Air Force, FBI, and CIA documents as well as interviews with retired military personnel.  The lecture will occur on Monday, Oct 24 at 7 p.m. in the Hub (formerly SUBII) Ballroom.  Presented by the Program Board. 

Halloween dodgeball tournament and costume contest sure to provide spooky fun

Student involvement will be hosting a dodgeball tournament as part of Halloween Bash 2011 this Saturday, Oct. 29 starting at 1 p.m.  Students can register online as teams of six to compete for the all campus dodgeball crown.  Students are encouraged to come in costume as prizes will be awarded for best costume as well as the winners of the tournament.  Registration closes Oct. 26. Sponsored by Rec Sports, Fuze, and Powerade.  

Fall Festival sure to get students in the Halloween spirit

Housing and Residence Life will be holding a Fall Festival this Thursday, Oct 27, featuring a number of events strategically located so that all residents can attend; regardless of where they live on-campus.  The festival events are open to all Mason students.  The first event is Oktoberfest on the Pilot House patio from 6 to 10 p.m., which will include free food, games, and giveaways.  Next, those looking for scares may not want to miss Mason’s annual Haunted Hanover, from 8 p.m. to midnight.  Finally, an interactive viewing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show will be presented in Dewberry Hall at 11:30 p.m.
