Virginia Democrats, including a group of current and former elected officials, held a rally on the Fairfax campus Monday afternoon seeking support for Democratic candidates prior to Election Day on Tuesday.
Former Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, Senators Mark Warner and Jim Webb, Congressmen Gerry Connolly and Jim Moran, former Congressman Tom Perriello, and former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Terry McAuliffe were all in attendance.
Congressman Connolly reminded students that there is a new polling center on campus, located in University Hall, room 1202.
"[There are] no excuses about not voting," said Connolly.
"When young people vote, democrats win!" said former Congressman Perriello, in front of a crowd of students and supporters at the East Plaza between the Johnson Center and David King Hall.
"The last thing we need to do is turn Richmond into Washington," said current Senator Mark Warner, alluding to tensions on Capitol Hill.
"I'm tired of our party being on the defense, it’s time to be on the offense," added former Democratic Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe
Fairfax County Republicans held a rally last month, on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Fairfax County Republican headquarters building on Chain Bridge Rd., less than a mile from the Fairfax campus.
