Weekly Rundown: 5 events for your week
No time to look through Today @ Mason or sift through Facebook event invitations? We've got you covered. Here are some events for the week to consider placing on your Google Calendar or iCal. (Or your traditional paper planner.)
Tuesday, May 1 What it is: Need a break from the grind of preparing for finals? Housing and Residence Life has you covered with Cram Jam a special de-stress event featuring free pancakes and prizes such as an iPod, Xbox Kinect, Fall 2013 parking pass, digital camera and more. Why it’s our pick: No need to go all the way to IHOP for your late night pancake fix, especially since their pancakes aren’t free and don’t come with the chance to win fabulous prizes! Where: Southside,10 – 11:30 p.m. |
Thursday, May 3 What it is: Grammy award winning rapper Lupe Fiasco will be bringing his thoughtful lyrics and dance beats to the Patriot Center this week in what promises to be a great show to celebrate the end of the semester. Why it’s our pick: Student tickets are available for $15 and $25 and can be purchased from the Office of Student Involvement in the Hub and the Patriot Center box office. General admission tickets are available for $35 and $45 through all Ticketmaster outlets. Where: Patriot Center, 8 p.m. |
Friday, May 4 What it is: Celebrate the last day of classes at Park-A-Palooza, an outdoor party featuring games, inflatables, free food and live entertainment. Why it’s our pick: This is a chance to interact with your Residence Life staff and just otherwise enjoy the spring weather and festivities. Where: President's Park Lawn, 1 – 5 p.m. |
Sunday, April 6 What it is: The Mason chapter of Habitat for Humanity is holding this run and fundraiser in honor of Nat Bresler, one of its founding members. Registration is $20 for individuals in advance, $25 for individuals at the door and $15 per person for teams larger than 10. Registrants will receive a t-shirt, refreshments and access to a post-race reception. Why it’s our pick: Fifty percent of the proceeds raised will go to Habitat for Humanity, with the other 50% going into the Nat Bresler Memorial Fund, which will be used to award grants to three students who “exemplify Nat’s strong willed personality and desire for change.” Try to beat your best time while supporting a good cause! Where: Patriot Circle Art Plaza, 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. |
Sunday, April 6 What it is: Mason’s first ever TEDx Conference will showcase compelling and thought-provoking talks from figures both within and outside the Mason community. Topics will cover a wide variety of disciplines, including astronomy, mathematics, anthropology and neuroscience. Why it’s our pick: Unfortunately the event has already surpassed its capacity, but those interested can stay tuned to the TEDxGeorgeMasonU website for a semi-live stream. Video of each talk will be uploaded to YouTube roughly an hour after they conclude. Online viewers are encouraged to submit questions, comments and feedback on theTEDx Facebook and Twitter pages during the event. Where: Innovation Hall, Room 103, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. |
