1. Attend a Fall for the Book Event
When: September 27 through September 29
Where: Fairfax GMU Campus, Arlington GMU Campus, and surrounding DC area
This year marks the seventh year of the annual Fall for the Book festival at George Mason University. With events in various locations, the Book Festival is a must attend event. The festival features a wide array of authors on different topics and genres. Whether you are going for class or are a lover a books, be sure to check out the schedule of events at Fall for the Book’s website.
2. The Color Purple Film Screening
When: Friday September 28 and Saturday 29 at 6pm
Where: Johnson Center Cinema
Alice Walker will be one of the highlights for this year’s Fall for the Book to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of “The Color Purple.” The book was turned into a made-for-tv movie directed by Stephen Speilberg and produced by Oprah Winfrey. The event is focused on honoring the work of Walker in conjunction with her speaking engagement for Fall for the Book.
3. Open Mic Night at Epicure Café
When: Every Thursday beginning at 8pm until 12am
Where: Epicure Cafe
A unique open mic night experience, Epicure Café offers an opportunity for musicians to perform between two to three songs in front of a live audience. Paired with delicious food and drinks, Epicure Café should be your number one stop for a good night. Bring your friends and listen to some great local talent or perform yourself!
4. Comedy Night at the Old Firehouse Station
When: Friday September 28 at 8pm to 10pm
Where: Old Fire House Station ‘3
Come to the Old Firehouse’s weekly Comedy Night, featuring comedians from the area. Whether they are good or not, you’ll still enjoy the food and drinks that are offered. Only a five minute drive from campus, and accessible by bus, the Old Firehouse Station hosts weekly comedy and concert events. Get off campus and enjoy your night!

5. All Roads Film Festival
When: Thursday September 27 through Sunday September 30
Where: National Geographic Museum, Washington D.C.
Celebrating its eighth year, the All Roads Film Festival features a slew of documentary and feature films from around the world. The festival includes discussions with many of the featured film’s directors along with live music. This annual event is a must for any lover of film.
