New York Fashion Week Ready-To-Wear Fall 2013 Collection Recap

This season, New York Fashion Week was characterized by not only some of the brightest colors in the spectrum, but also the return of classic colors such as black and white. Designers from Oscar de la Renta to Monique Lhuilier featured beautiful and colorful designs which proved to us all that color shouldn't only be worn in the summer, but to be enjoyed all year long.

Kate Spade New York

Always playful and whimsical, the Kate Spade New York collection featured lady-like pieces, but with its own twist: color and polka-dots! My favorite? The donut sweater.

Jill Stuart

Dark and mysterious --That is exactly how to describe this season’s Jill Stuart collection. With beautiful cut-out fabric (trend alert perhaps?) and white collars, each piece maintained its femininity and elegance.

Oscar de la Renta

Oscar, Oscar, Oscar. Need I say more? This legendary designer never fails to surprise us with beautiful, timeless pieces. This season, he invited (controversial ex-Dior designer) John Galliano to serve as his designer-in-residence, and we clearly noticed his influence in the collection. We saw brighter-than-usual pieces; however, de la Renta continued to maintain the house's elegance with perfectly tailored dresses.

Calla

Designer Calla Hayes proved to us all that color shouldn't only be for summer and spring.

"You shouldn't be afraid of color!" stated Hayes at her show this season (Style.com).

Look after look, every piece had its own character personified in vibrant colors and soft pastels. Hayes modernized the pant-suit with bright, bold colors brilliantly!

Monique Lhuillier

Elegant, light, and effortless. That is exactly how to describe the Monique Lhuillier collection this season. Often a favorite among celebrities such as Drew Barrymore and Michelle Williams, Lhuiller’s look after look features minimalistic designs with cool color palettes. I loved the fact that she also incorporated fun -- (although, in my opinion, it should have been faux) -- of different colors to add sophistication to the whole collection.

Catherine Malandrino

It’s not everyday that a designer draws their inspiration from French Art Deco furniture designs of Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (Style). This season, Catherine Malandrino's collection graced the runway with a black and burgundy color palette on beautifully Baroque-like embroidered dresses. The Art Deco theme can be appreciated throughout the whole collection thanks to the geometric shapes. Trend alert: black, nude and leather!
