In a closed session on March 19, the George Mason University Board of Visitors approved United States Senator Mark Warner as the 46th commencement speaker in this year’s graduation ceremony.
Warner has delivered the address before in 2003, while serving as governor of Virginia. According to Connection Newspaper, in his first commencement, Warner encouraged students to support Mason even as they leave the university.
Warner, a member of the Democratic party, was elected to the United States Senate in 2008.
Last year, Alan Merten delivered the address, after serving 16 years as Mason’s president.
The graduation ceremony will be held on May 18 in the Patriot Center.
